    Get A Life…

A few months ago I wrote a rant on my blog about how some people in my industry just plain ol’ suck at their job. It’s nothing uncommon. Every industry has people working in that field that shouldn’t be. Some industries have more bad than good…some professionals get a bad rap because of this. Like Chiropractors, Lawyers and Used Car Salesmen. Recruiters often fall into the bad rap category because there are so many bad experiences. Not just from the job seekers, but all over the board. Clients, job seekers and fellow recruiters are often in the line of fire when a recruiter isn’t doing their job correctly.

So anyway…I decided to share this on my personal blog (not that I really know the difference because I don’t hide anything-EVER) because I thought it was funny.

There was a disgruntled recruiter who took offense to the title of the post I wrote.  I’m pretty sure they didn’t really read what I wrote because their reply didn’t match my message in the slightest.  A few days after that, a colleague sends me a message with concern:

“hey you, I have not spoken to you in awhile but there has been discussions about you over the net regarding your opinion towards recruiters. What did you write? I was in a blog forum/chat where recruiters speak openly about issues and challenges and your name was brought up.. It wasnt pretty. Naturally, i did speak up for you but they said something about you degrating recruiters and how recruiters do more harm then help. Just thought I would let u know.”

Really? Wow, I feel like one of those famous people with bad PR now. (not really, that’s sarcasm)

    My reply:

Thanks (name withheld so they don’t get pissed off).   I don’t need a defense.  If any recruiters are offended by what I wrote, then they aren’t the type of recruiters I’d like to be associated with.  And my reputation with candidates and clients are all I care about. They are the people I work for.

This is the truth.  If recruiters can actually find time to create drama on public discussion forums, what does that really say about them as a professional?

Get a life people.  There are so many more important things to discuss in our industry.  Like helping people find a job!
